Off the Post took a visit out to North West London to watch Hendon take on Hartley Wintney. With 4 players currently out injured there were a few changes for the Hendon squad. Hendon are tipped to be one of the favourite’s for the division this year.
Once the game got underway, it was all Hendon in the opening minutes. It would take just three minutes for Hendon, to create there first great chance as Lucien who cut inside of his defender and crossed the ball into the box, for White to head home as Hendon took the lead. It wasn’t all one way with Hartley having half chances and were very effective down the right hand side forcing the Hendon keepers into a flurry of good saves . Eddie Oshodi went close on 22 minutes but the keeper parried his shot out for a corner. From the corner the ball, Shaun Lucien unleashed a shot that sailed across the box and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
It was not one way traffic as Hartley continued to put Hendon under pressure trying to force there way back into the game but was all too easy for the Hendon defence. Hartley would go close just before half time when a ball was played through for the number 19 to get on the end of who forced the Hendon keeper into a good save.
Just minutes into the second half, Hendon had there first chance of the half as Matt Ball unleashed a shot from just inside the Hartley half from 35 yards out on the half volley which sailed wide of the Witney box. Within 4 minutes of the second half, Hendon would have a third as from a Shaun Lucien cross, Toby Brydon connected with a powerful header to increase their lead. Hartley had barely had time to recover before Hendon were on the attack again as Sambou went on a mazy run from inside his own half and into the Hartley half before slipping the ball through to Jayden Clark who was one on one with the keeper, before calmly slotting the ball under the Hartley keeper to make it 4-0. As the second half progressed Hendon would make 3 subs, with Luca Allinson replacing Jayden Clark on 70 minutes. 7 minutes later and a double sub of Matt Ball and Shaun Lucien being replaced by Dwade James and Cheyce Grant. But Hendon still wanted to increase their lead and had shouts for a penalty turned down by the referee. It was not all one way traffic as Hartley continued to try and score but were unable to breach the Hendon defence.
Speaking to the manager Lee Allinson after the game
“I thought we were average overall, but we were ruthless in there box, our second half performance was better and there is more to come from this squad in the next few weeks“
