Hillingdon Borough-Ciprian Pintilie

The current Hillingdon Borough were formed in 1991 and play in Ruislip. They currently play at Step 6 in the Spartan League Division, having played as high as Step 4 in 2008.

You were sitting in 17th when the season finished for COVID-19, do you think you would have finished higher if the season had finished?

I think we had a good start to the season. Our downfall was from November, where we had won 7 out of 8 fixtures, then in December we played only one game. In January we had 7 games and 3 in February so we were unable to get back into our rhythm. If we had a good run of games in December, we would have finished in the top 10

How long have you been in charge now?

I have been the DOF since October 2019, this was more to help to take care of the club behind the scenes, the admin etc and create a good structure off the pitch. My assistant manager came on board around the same time who assists with training and much more. We have put together a plan to start a college side as well so the players can play alongside with learning. But I have been here since February 2018/19. When i took over we had 2 players and i had to put 11 players out for a game on the same day which was a challenge.

What are the team’s targets for the season?

Speaking as DOF, is to make the club self sustainable so that we don’t rely only on funding from Dee’s and to bring as many new sponsors in to be part of our future projects that club will put together for the community, As manager i want the club to finish as high as possible and create an environment where players can develop and feel like are appreciated for the hard work they put for the club over the season!

What type of football do you like your side to play?

We like to play an enjoyable game for the fans, you won’t see us playing long ball football. We like to play quick football, with the ball on the ground and we are as attacking as possible.

Who do you think will be strong in the league this season?

New Salamis will be up there and i think will be strong. Rayners Lane have some great facilities and should be up in the promotion mix come the end of the season.

Any news on your PSF’s?

We have played Northwood and Broadfields already, but the majority are against sides in higher divisions. Coming up we still have Marlow and Tring. The last friendly before the league starts will be against AFC Hayes.

Is Ash Hunt returning for the next season?

He won’t be sadly after all the goals he scored last season, but he is on trial at an unnamed few leagues higher clubs right now. But we wish him all the best in his career and show that we can help their development.

Are there any Player/Players at Hillingdon Borough who we should be looking out for?

You should be looking out for Levi At CM, he was an outstanding player last season and we hope to see him back this season. Temi who is 17 who i think will be playing higher within a season or two as he is a great player.

Will you be Using other local clubs to bring in young experienced players?

As DOF we are looking to work with local sides to forge those relationships. We have a relationship with Uxbridge and Marlow at the moment with either young players or players who are returning from injury.

Do you think the FA were right to void all leagues below Step 2?

I think it should have been settled on PPG across all of the leagues.

How will non leagues have changed due to COVID-19?

This will be down to finances, we have the facilities and this brings in finances, but if clubs are member based or rely on a big benefactor they may have issues going ahead.

What opposition are you looking forward to/ looking to avoid this season?

I am looking forward to play New Salamis, we have had some good games against them in previous seasons including a 4-4 game, where we were 4-1 down at half time.

What club do you support?

I am a Chelsea fan, thanks to Dan Pestrescu I loved watching him, playing in a different country and excelling.

Best moment in management?

The 4-4 draw against New Salamis for me. Having 10 players with 5 minutes before kick off and just made 11 players as we came on to the pitch.

Best player you have managed against?

New Salamis away first game of last season, he played left wing and he was just immensely very quick provided assists and much more off the ball.

What manager/coach do you admire the most?

I don’t have a specific manager i admire,  but i look more at ones that have bought in a club culture, philosophy etc and turned it around and that have excelled look at Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Bielsa at Leeds. Simone as well, as it gives me ideas to bring to the club such as how to handle yourself, how the players should be behaving as well.

What are the clubs plans for the next 3-5 years?

In the next 5 years, we would like to be able to pay players again, but off the pitch as well we want to start the college side and an U18 and U16 Sides as well in the future that will produce players for the future and provide them with an education. We want to be competitive in whatever division we are in.

How does the club plan to work with the community post COVID-19?

We have started well bringing in new sponsors such as Skyex and Serialogical, but we want to look at work the club can do in the community to build the footing of the club in the local community.

Who do you think will win the league this year?

New Salamis, it’s theirs to lose.
